Stanford Primary

Year 1

The children in Year 1 love learning! We have some fantastic topics which include Superheroes, Dinosaur Planet and Moon Zoom which we use to support our learning across the curriculum.  This includes making our own Carnival songs, using clay to make dinosaur fossils and creating and performing superhero dance routines! To support us with our topics we also go on some exciting trips.  These include the Museum of Childhood, our local fire station and the Horniman Museum.

We use a core story as the base for most of our topic work and then learn how to read, act out and write our own stories and non-fiction work. We have daily guided reading and phonics sessions four times a week which all support us to develop our reading and writing skills.

In Year 1 we also have maths lessons daily using the Maths - No Problem!curriculum.  We learn how to recognise numbers, count in different ways, solve calculations and explore shapes and measures all in problem solving contexts.

Learning in Year 1 is fun, practical and memorable!
