Welcome to Lavender Class
Year 6
Year 6 is a year of change, challenge and co-operation with many obstacles to overcome, but reaping numerous rewards on the way. The children will develop and enhance many skills needed for their transition to secondary school – building relationships and pushing the boundaries of their academic goals.
As a team, we are there to support the journey both academically and emotionally. Our curriculum is engaging and inspiring for the older children, including the delivery of exciting new themes, like Microsociety. Here the children will learn to create their own democratic systems and develop entrepreneurial skills to run their own countries.
To support the pupils’ well-being, we will be encouraging learning outdoors as much as possible. This brings a new enthusiasm into a child’s learning and keeps their brains alert for longer when back in class.
This year is obviously an important one for our students, when preparing for the End of Key Stage Tests. Within school we use a highly effective team of adults to deliver intervention and boosters to children who need that extra push in reading, writing and maths. In return, we expect every child to always give their best in every subject and to realise that their end goal may be different to that of another pupil – it is progress that counts! If you want to be the best and you want to beat the rest – dedication is what you need!
Undoubtedly, we will work hard to make sure it is not just a year of academic tests, but also a chance to try new things and showcase their talents and skills as the oldest children in the school. The end of the year will be a time of celebration and we are certain the production will be an extravaganza of dramatic expertise!
We hope that you will join us on this journey and support your child to the greatest of your ability at home.
